My love for photography goes hand in hand with my love of music. It dates back to my earliest walks around the Danube river and my first encounters with the great works of art of master landscape painters. You can often find me listening to certain types of music, while shooting my favorite landscapes. Shadow is to light the same as silence is to sound. Music is an inspiration for photography as certain sights and places are an inspiration for a certain musical mood.
There is a cliche shared by a lot of photographers that a photograph should tell a story. For me that's not the case. My understanding is that a photography should convey a certain mood, and should ideally bring the viewer to a state beyond a certain place or time frame. The play of textures, tones and colors is as important as are the subject and the story. And as a universal symbol of emotion, water in its different forms is a desired element in a photo too, in a way used by a certain cult movie director (who was also a photographer).
Another cliche among the landscape photographers is that the best time to take photographs is soon after sunrise or before sunset, during the "golden hour". My understanding about that is different too. I rarely like the candid look of that type of photography, which often shares some characteristics with kitsch. I prefer the beauty of the "blue hour" right after sunset, when all shapes and colors look even more mystical and vague than during the "golden hour". I prefer shooting on overcast days, or in fog - those weather conditions, which lead to introspection and connection with one's inner self more than any other type of weather.
